It has not snowed at all in Colorado. I’ve been so frustrated about it, as have many who live in this beautiful state with me. I realized this morning that one reason why I love the snow so much is that it allows me to slow down. It’s Mother Earth’s way of making us stay inside, get cozy, and rest.
Winter has a way of telling the truth quietly. We are a busy people, and somewhere in time, we forgot how to live by the seasons.
It whispers to us again and again:
rest is not something you earn.
It’s something you need.
So many of us move through the year holding our breath, pushing forward, staying productive even when our bodies and spirits are asking for pause. Winter arrives and gently disrupts that momentum. The days shorten. The light softens. The Earth slows whether we want it to or not.
But we continue to push through. We must be productive. We have to finish the year strong. And usually, we have so much to do. Let’s be honest. The end of the year is a rush.
But there is wisdom here. There is wisdom in leaning into the season.
When we allow ourselves to slow down, even a little, something remarkable happens. We begin to hear ourselves again. Our nervous systems soften. Our inner voice becomes clearer. What felt buried under noise and obligation starts to surface.
This season isn’t asking you to disappear.
It’s asking you to listen.
Maybe listening looks like lighting a candle at the end of the day.
Maybe it looks like sitting in silence for a few minutes before reaching for your phone.
Maybe it looks like letting one thing wait.
You don’t need to do winter perfectly.
You just need to let it touch you.
So I’ll leave you with this gentle invitation:
✨ Light a candle.
✨ Sit in stillness.
✨ Let the world wait.
What part of this landed for you?
With warmth,
Caroline
